Come one, come all! To the greatest show in town. My name’s P.R., which I’m told is pretty ironic if you’ve met me. I’m here today to give you a little introduction to what we’ve got going on here at Grizzled Comics. I don’t necessarily mean an introduction to the bullpen, we’ve got an “about us” section somewhere around here for that. No, I’m here to get you a little look into our minds. Of course, I can’t speak for everybody and I wouldn’t dare to. However, as Editor-In-Chief, I do have some influence over the culture here.
So, what’s this blog going to look like then? Consider it something of an editorial column. The pop cultural zeitgeist never stops pumping out new media, discourse, or thought provoking slop to ruminate over. (You’ll notice pretty quickly that I’m going to avoid the word “content” if I can help myself.) For as long as there’s something to comment on, we’ll be here to comment on it. At the very least I will. Inshallah we’ll be putting a blog post out every week for you. However, there are a few topics which we’ve noticed pop up with alarming regularity. I’m not interested in wasting either of our time so, if you have any questions about the culture around the office, maybe I can answer them for you now.
”Do you guys like gay people?” Hey man, it ain’t a bear themed company for nothing.
“Do you guys like transgender people?” Very much so, yes.
”Do you guys like black people, latinx people, or other racial minorities?” Well yes. Our goal is always to do right by the many different communities who enrich our lives. We recognize, as two white guys, that there are probably going to be mistakes. Having said that, with any luck we’ll be able to grow and learn for our whole lives.
”Do you guys like Muslim people?” Yes, I hope you’re sensing a pattern by now. You can see why I would like to get this all out of the way up top.
”How do you feel about Jewish people?” Oh yeah, we’re two funny white guys who work in comics and we’re not friends with any Jewish people. Get real. Comics specifically owe so much to the Jewish people. I as a person owe a lot to the Jewish community myself. If I need to say it out loud, yes, I love Jewish people.
”Oh! If you love Jewish people so much then I bet you LOVE the nation of Israel!” You gotta get off Twitter man, that stuff rots your brain.
”Actually it’s called X now. Did you just deadname the website? Did you just assume my gender? LIBERAL SOYBOY CUCKS!!” This may not be the company for you.
I speak in a funny way, but I don’t want to mince my words here. We’re not going to pretend to be apolitical because politics are another form of ideas and we’re not going to pretend like we don’t have ideas. The ideas at our core are to care about the people around us. Empathy is meant to be the core of the human experience. The human experience is meant to the core of art. Art is meant to be the core of entertainment.
If that sounds appealing to you, this may be your kind of place. So, I invite you to come along with us here. You’re catching us right at the beginning of our journey, but I hope we travel it together for a long time.
